Paris Men's Fashion Week: Andrea Crews

 Not in Paris for men's fashion week? Me neither but, thanks to technology we can be! Not really but kinda. 

 While checking out collections via the internet, I was happy to see a new favorite of mine. 

 Parisian brand, Andrea Crews, showcased their S/S '15 collection at Musée d'Art moderne with Maluca Mala, surely giving a great performance. Maluca Mala? Yes. 

 Here is the release of the up-cycle, limited quantity, du jour au, Andrea Crews S/S '15. Up-cycle? Yes. Maluca Mala. Yes.

"He has doe eyes and a killer smile: the Andrea Crews man is proudly making his debut 

into Paris’ official ready-to-wear menswear calendar (but acting totally blasé about it).

This season, our long-haired Cupid is being given a makeover by a gang of intellectual twerkers, 

to the live electrical merengue beats of Maluca. The tropical punkette has come straight from Manhattan 

for a residence with Red Bull Studio Paris, to compose a exclusive-explosive creation remixed by 

Parisian eclectronic band Club Cheval.

Our creature from the future is a fearless flâneur, and takes on his American cousin, an artist and rave dancer, 

on a tour of Paris 3.0 : the pair befriends the guards of the Musée d’Art moderne and the souvenir sellers by the Eiffel Tower. 

They stroll around a universe inhabited with pop sculptures by French collective Modèle Puissance.

Prints of large birds ogling masterpieces of art are taking center stage on the duo’s garments. 

The paintings later brighten up sportswear attires, and give a contrasting twist to iconic urban silhouettes, 

such as the classic 90s tracksuit. These artworks are also reinterpreted through the filter of a touristic souvenir stand: 

our mighty gang of two also wears up-cycled scarves bearing silken Van Gogh clouds or 3D impressions of Monet’s Nymphéas. 

Impressionism soaks in the colors of the street and the energy of Naïve Art, for a Street Arte Povera pop style, 

which confronts sunhats and baseball caps worn backwards ; high-tech, raw fabrics and shimmery silks.

Through this Guarana-injected show with an Anormcore boost, Maroussia transforms her crew and the public 

into post-gender barracudas, where men are more virile than ever in tank top-dresses. Always freer, always fresher. 

To be consumed without moderation."

Milan Men's Fashion Week: Frankie Morello FW '13

The inspirations of the Frankie Morello presentation was a diverse group but put together in the end amazingly. There were prints of NY buildings, tiles/flooring prints, neons, metallics and scenes of someones home. Maybe Mr. Fabio is like the rest of us and love NYC or had someone close to him move there and feel the things they are going through with decorating a new home. Either way, the process in which he displayed all of these were interesting and gave me the thought of home. 

 

 The colors of the collection consisted of greens, burgandy, and tweed. He added green neon or orange neon and gave the suits or sportswear pieces a pop. The styling of the short sleeved shirts on the blazers really let me see this trend in full effect. Anything shiny is a go in my book.

 

 

Milan MFW: Tom Rebl

I arrived at the location of the Tom Rebl fashion presentation a bit early so after enjoying a quick drink in the lobby I ventured out and about around the neighborhood the show would take place. Within the hour before the show was actually suppose to start I met many transsexual beauties, had a nice pizza and fries with a Coke for 5 euro and was propositioned by a generous group of hash sellers; With this bit of fun I knew there was something special about this night.

 The show started with the entire room getting dark and then green lights coming from the balcony of the beginning of the runway came on. The lights looked as if it was an escalator of clouds that you could easily climb on to get to the top of the balcony. Before I could try to see if  it was actually possible, 4 or so models appeared wearing headdresses resembling birds. The models began to ascend down the stairs, not the clouds of light. You could see the headdresses were made of hair and looked to have taken a long time to create. The collection was mostly black leather or other fabrics in black color. The styling included chains on the models and some wore multiple chains to the point it just could have been the garment. There was a gold lame shirt styled with four fur shawls which looked great. There was also a gorgeous overcoat in one of the hottest colors of Fall and Summer, Burgundy. Zig Zags were also present another trend I am very much so into. The ideas presented at the Tom Rebl show will definitely have me keeping an eye out for what he has up next and you should too!

Walter Van Beirendock SS 11

Mr. Van Beirendock showed an amazing collection at Le Bataclan on the 25th. I have a special place in my heart for a husky bear type man but when he is as stylish as the men in this collection its love. The presentation was one of the few who had female models as well. There was alot of plaid throughout the collection mixed for tops and bottoms. His tag was "Read my skin". There were pieces with holes covering them spelling out "hope" & "read my skin". He was one of the few designers who incorporated jewerlery in their collection. There was wonderful bead necklaces and chest peices very wearable for a man or a woman. He also had backpacks shaped as aligators. This is deffinitely a collection to try and get your hands on and expect great works from in the future.

Yohji Yamamoto SS 11

Yamamoto's moto for this collection "Dress up". He want men to take much more pride in the way they dress and also what they wear. The collection was inspired by the colonial times (Benjamin Franklin, George Washington, etc.) This time period is a great example of men who cared about fully dressing up and what they wore. The collection consisted of long polo shirts, oversized blazers with double lapels (seen a bit through the week), and antique looking flower prints. Although the top hats were not practical they brought the collection together. He did not stick to just a group of colors. There was one stand out orange suit;while purple and aqua was used also. For footwear he used dress shoes and slip ons (with the antique flower print) worn with knee high socks.

Gaspard Yurkievich SS 11

This collection was a favourite of mine. The use of laying dress shorts and biker shorts under was great. The colors used; tan, blue, & black was used in an array of fabrics and textures. Sheer was a big trend seen throughout the week. There was a brick print on the t shirts and blue acid washed suits. There was a great amount of outerwear in this collection as in others (see Jackets in the Summer) The collection was very well thoughtout and showed extreme versatility for work and play. The collection also included bags from Eastpak.

Thibaud Etcheberry SS 11

The newly graduated designer Thibaud Etcheberry showed his first collection in a very spirtual place, a church. Assuming to get good blessing for this collection and the ones to follow. The collection consisted of 22 looks with the color scheme of blue, black, white, & grey. He mixed alot of different fabrics in the collection and on individual pieces. He incorporated layering (a huge trend for S/S) with solid tops and destroyed outer layers. The fabric used was very delicate and extremely breathable for the hot season.

From Tight shorts to loose fitting ((Men))

Last summer was defined as the season of cutting up multiple pairs of skinny jeans. The spring of ’09 going into summer, a major trend that will be seen is baggier pairs of shorts. The length of the shorts will be from extremely short to calf length. The beginning of the spring is a perfect time to test wearing leggings and even stockings with your shorts that are being carried over from last summer. From experiencing the tight short trend last year, I learned sometimes they were uncomfortable, ripped easily if cut to short, & gave to much of a slutty look that was not able to easily go from day to night (also going overboard and cutting expensive jeans hurt you down the road). Dress shorts will be seen a lot worn as a suit and pleated shorts with the baggy look is also a definite pair to look out for. Word of advice, instead of cutting more denim, cut & hem the pair of slacks hanging in your closet.
